Nurses – Role and Training required

Today, most youngsters are looking for a career in nursing because it has high potential for growth. Role of Nurse

Nurses assess the health status of each patient and check their response to treatment. They also check the patient’s ability to cope with chronic diseases and their ability to perform the activities of daily life. They also collaborate with physicians, surgeons and other healthcare professionals to prepare individualized plans of care for patients. Nurses are also required to evaluate the outcome of treatments and revise the plan of care of patients accordingly.

Nurses who work in healthcare facilities also collaborate with patients admitted in the facility, to prepare several interventions. These interventions help the patients in managing pain, improving their functioning and maximizing their independence. Nurses can also help patients in strengthening their coping strategies and improve their access to community resources. They can also act as advocates of patients and their family in the healthcare facility, legislative area and the community.

Training required by nurses

Education preparation for getting a license to practice as registered nurse can be obtained after you complete 4-years of college or a university program that gets you a degree in nursing or a hospital-based program that gets you a diploma in nursing. Some healthcare facilities also recruit nurses who have completed two years of junior or community college that gets them an associate degree in nursing.

To practice as a registered nurse in a state, you must complete licensure requirements of the state. If you want to specialize in a particular field, you must get the knowledge and the expertise to specialize in your field for interest. For example, if you want to become a rheumatology RN, you must have specialized expertise and knowledge to take care of people who are suffering from rheumatic diseases. This would require you to get experience and continue your education beyond the basic education program. Some healthcare facilities will require you to get a masters or doctorate degree if you want to specialize in a particular field.
