The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed historical hospital data of about 8 million patients who were admitted in hospitals in 1995 and 2008. The researchers discovered that there was more than 30 percent rise in cases of store in people that were 5 to 44 years old. Some of the main causes of stoke included diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity and stress.
The researchers at the institute mainly studied the history of patients that suffered ischemic stroke which was caused by blood clots and haemorrhagic stroke which is caused due to bleeding in the human brain. The researchers discovered that there was a 31 percent rise in the rate of ischemic stroke in people who were 5 to 14 years old. Researchers also discovered 30 percent rise the rate of ischemic stroke in people who were 15 to 34 years of age. The sharpest increase in the rate of ischemic stroke was in people who were 35 to 44 years of age. Also, the increase on the rate of ischemic stroke was greater in men when compared to women.
Some of the symptoms of ischemic stroke include:
- Unable to lift or move either one or both the arms
- Dropping of the face on one side
- Unable to move the eye or smile
The report concluded that urgent measures must be taken by the government to reverse in the trends. These measures can help in reducing the risk factors that cause stoke in kids and young adults.
Dr Lorna Layward of Stroke Association in UK said that earlier people associated stroke with elderly people but today more than 25 percent stroke patients are those of working age. He further added that more than 400 children suffer from stroke every year.
The research will make people understand the risk of stokes and its affect on young people. Therefore it is important that people check their blood pressure regularly and avoid foods that can have an adverse impact on their health.
